See what our team is saying about Fallen
An enemies to lovers crossed with a secret love interest of the forbidden. Sam discovers some devastating news after becoming a widow; then falling in love with the last person she thought she would. You could see the chemistry between these two, but took a long time to get on the same page. A slow building romance thread definitely worth a read.
This was a first for this author for me, and I can say that I don't see it being my last. The basis of the this story was one that I haven't seen much. Yes there is those love stories of the guy or girl falling for their dead friends significant other. But this one did things a little differently. You never got to see the relationship that was, right off the bat you are taken into 2 week after the death.
Luke is someone that has been having to live with the fact that he has wanted his friends wife all these years. And now shes, but can he allow himself to go there with her? Sam was living a life with blinders on when it came to her husband, now there are things that have come to light that she didn't want to believe when she was told them years ago, by someone that she has resented for years. Now she has to come to not only terms that her husband is gone, but that he was the man that she thought that he was.
The story that is Luke and Sam was one that grabbed my attention and was able to keep it from being to end. The struggle that they both where putting themselves through was something that had me reading page after page to see, if these two could allow themselves to find the one person that could make them happy. And the fact that this was a split POV book helped in the way that there was jot just one way of seeing the events that unfolded. Both Sam and Luke had their own emotions and troubles that they were working through and to be able to see how they both were handling things was something that was needed to fulling connect to each of the characters.
So my first impression of Fallen is kind of contradictory. I loved it for its sort of straightforward simplicity. Sam slept with Luke to get revenge. But I also didn’t like and was sort of confused by how easily it was for her to get over her husband’s death. I mean, I get that it’s romance and all, so it’s not completely realistic. But that was a bit far fetched for me. How do you just get over someone you were married to so quickly? I get he cheated, but okay. Also, I got frustrated with how it was a mutual feeling of do they like me or not. It could’ve been easily solved, but that’s just me. I think he should’ve told her sooner that he was in love with her. Bottom line, it’s a good read if you’re not easily frustrated like I am. I liked certain aspects of the story, and I think that’s why I kept with it. I’d definitely read a future book by her.
After finding out that her husband of three years has been cheating on her, the only thing recently widowed Samantha Collins wants to do is to put her old life behind her. The first thing on the checklist? To sell her husband's share of the hedge fund he started with his best friend. Only Luke Darren has different plans. More comfortable with running the day-to-day operations of the firm, Luke has always stayed in the background, letting Jason become the face of the company. But now that Jason's gone, clients have been leaving in droves. The last thing he needs is for Samantha to leave as well. It would be the last straw for the customers who were already on the fence about pulling their money out and Luke couldn't risk that. But soon, working with Samantha is wrecking his concentration. He's been in love with her for years and with Jason no longer in the way, being friends just isn't enough and he soon finds himself wanting more! Fallen is a stand-alone novel.
