This book literally had me on edge the whole time that I finished it in a day. I needed to know what happened next for Fallyn and Blaze. You can literally feel all the emotions that both put you through during the book. You can feel the struggle Blaze is going through and you can feel the heartbreak that Fallyn goes through! You can feel the insta-chemistry between them and know that they are just meant to be together, but in order to get that HEA they are going to definitely have a struggle to get through. I really enjoyed reading this book!
Marie James? Who is this Marie James? When I saw the cover of this I was immediately drawn in. Then I read the blurb and said yep I need to read this book, so I went ahead and requested. I knew this book would be right up my alley because I was looking for an angsty book to get the tears flowing. Sadly, I didn’t cry, but I still liked the book. This follows Blaze and Fallyn on their rollercoaster love story. Blaze is a college football player who is going all the way. Growing up he had to fight his way through life due to his parents addiction. They weren’t supportive, they didn’t even care about him, but he did it. He succeed and got a scholarship to play football at LVU. With one game left to go until the big dance, the players decide to throw a party and let off a little steam. Blaze has never had a problem with the ladies, they practically fall at his feet, but then he meets a gorgeous brunette and his world is turned upside down. Who is she? Fallyn has made some poor choices when she was in high school. Dating and believing in boys who were the bad boy, gorgeous, jocks. She’s not about to fall under that spell again in college. She’s turned her life around. Boys are not what she wants, she wants a degree and lives in the books. Her roommate pesters her one night to go to a party, I mean she is a junior in college and needs to live a little. She agrees and that decision changes the course of her life forever. While I enjoyed the story and it kept me turning the pages, some things just didn’t click for me.
One: Fallyn is determined that she isn’t going to fall back into the same habit, but she kisses him back right away and falls under the spell.
Two: they got all lovey dovey too fast and make a decision with barely knowing one another. I would have liked more build of them and more depth to their relationship other than I love you and you are my world. It just was like yep, we are in love. I mean I get insta-love, but this was a book I felt was suppose to give me the feels and have some hard lessons about love.
Three: his school at least his coach didn’t offer any help to him. I am sorry, but that is not the way it works, especially since he was a first time offender. They have programs for athletes and resources for students on every campus. Please do the research. I hate being harsh, but so many athletes struggle and this is why they offer these programs. Not just for those who getting into drug problems, but for those who are struggle with being stupid and getting into trouble with the law.
Four: Her roommate, I just didn’t get the whole she’s my friend for years and now all of a sudden she’s evil.
Five: Stone...what was with him? He seemed to get all crazy there at the end. But Blaze as a character, I felt his struggle. He was the best part of the whole book. He didn't come across as a bad boy, more like a man who makes some stupid decisions. Yes, he's cocky, but underneath it you can see a scared little boy who wants love even if he thinks he doesn't deserve it.I liked him and Fallyn together at the end, as they both seemed to grow up and not be so selfish. Yes, Fallyn was selfish too. She knew what was going on and seem to turn a blind eye too it, until the big moment she found out news about herself. For this being my first read by this author, I am intrigued by her writing style. I will check out another book from her as I did enjoy this for the most part. I felt this was a story about forgiveness, redemption and struggles we all face as adults. The hard truths we must face about one another and ourselves. Do I recommend this book? Yes, as I said I liked it but some stuff just nagged at me.
We said forever Love how it started out sweet, the guy chasing the girl with sweet kisses. Then, wham! The struggles they're both trying to fight past. Her story made me gasp, like it was someone telling me their truths. And, then his upbringing, reminds you of the reality we live in. Caught up in the thrill of their happy moment that was rushed and so not thought out. But, so right for them at that time. Until it isn't. I felt the hit with them 😞 Watching Blaze struggle really touches on addiction. The power it has over him really highlights what so many people suffer. The words written powerful. This story seriously blew me away! A definite must read!
This book is better than the cover. Don't get me wrong, I know so many people only read books with covers that look like this but I'm not one of them. I picked up this book because I heard good things about it. It's more than a book that pulls you in with a "hot" cover. No, this book has depth. Sure, it's a contemporary romance about a hot college football player and the sweet girl he meets. But that just cheapens the book to only think of it in those terms. I'm not going to even begin to tell you about it, you can do that by reading the blurb. All I can say about this book is it has so much to offer. It has love, despair, and most of all hope. There are some very sad moments and addiction is the key underlining issue between the couple, Blaze and Fallyn. Yet, there's also a bigger underlining issue and that is of hope. It's a powerful story of what we can do if we only have the drive, love and hope to become better people.
You know how you read a book that starts to tear you up and the further in you get the more drawn in you get? You get to the point where you just want someone to hold your hand and tell you it will get better. This is one of those books honestly couldn't stop reading coz I just needed to know how it finished! With tears rolling down my cheek I just wanted to jump in to the book and slap Blaze sometimes lol.
They say the only way to go from there is up, but what is “up” when you’re born into someone else’s rock bottom?
At ten, football became my first love. It’s what got me out of the house away from my self-destructive family. My love for football landed me at Las Vegas University with a full ride scholarship, and the orange on my jersey was my favorite color…until my eyes landed on the red dress Fallyn wore the night we met.
At twenty-one, I jumped off the cliff into the unknown the second Fallyn McIntyre danced in my arms at a party. I had the greatest girl in the world and the opportunity to play college ball every Saturday. My rock bottom was looking up, thanks to my two first loves.
Parties, sex, and football—life was perfect. But one drink too many, and my world came crashing down. When I chose pills over my second love, my head told me it was the best decision I ever made. The pills keep me warm and protect me from the distance Fallyn created. Percs don’t judge me. They make me feel alive.
They say the best things come in threes, but one leads to a stable future, one is my salvation, and the other drags me to hell—a hell I’d willingly burn in for eternity…if it weren’t for my second love
