Darkest Temptation

Book Review - DARKEST TEMPTATION by RACHEL VAN DYKEN

This is the first book from this series I have read and while it definitely can be read as a standalone and enjoyed as such I do wish I had read the first three books first and I plan to do just that. I'm not a big para fan so for a para to capture my attention is rare. That being said this is Rachel Van Dyken and I'm a huge fan of her writing. She always manages to capture my attention no matter what sub genre she writes. Mason and Serenity's story had me intrigued. Mason is so lost and he's almost punishing himself for a life that he feels he doesn't deserve. Serenity is just as lost feeling alone and unwanted. Like a burden to the world. They do fight against what they are meant to be. Mason comes off in the beginning as broody and almost a bit of a jerk, but you can see why and it's endearing in a way that makes you want him to embrace his destiny. I loved that Serenity almost pushed him at times. Together these two are explosive and you know that there are things coming that will explain the pull they feel to one another. I absolutely loved the other characters in this book as well which is why I definitely want to read the previous books and why I will definitely read future books from this series. It is not too intense, has the right amount of humour and is filled with moments of chemistry and for me who is not generally a para reader it had me interested in this world that RVD has created and has me wanting more.

I'm a werewolf King who chose to step down out of grief for my mate. For centuries I've been alone, choosing to live a life of modesty despite the wealth surrounding me. I deserve to be punished. I crave things I have no business craving. And it is manifesting itself in a way I'm terrified I won't be able to control any longer. Especially since she arrived. Vampire. Orphan. Beaten beyond recognition. My blood calls to her in a way that makes no sense. I'm a wolf. She's a vampire. The two don't mate. They barely tolerate one another. All it takes is one slip of control on my part — one taste. And I doom us all. Then again, I never knew what is lurking inside has the power to balance good and evil.
